01 · How it works
Three steps, then you forget about it.

Choose your folders
Point unpakr at Downloads, Desktop, or anywhere else you save things. It lives in the system tray — there is no window to keep open.

Download as normal
Keep working. Half-downloaded files are ignored until the download has actually finished.

It extracts and tidies up
The archive is unpacked next to itself and the original is sent to the Recycle Bin — if, and only if, everything went cleanly.
02 · Why it's safe
Other tools extract. This one is careful.
Deleting an archive is the risky part of unpacking it, so unpakr treats deletion as the exception rather than the rule. If anything is even slightly off, the original stays exactly where it is.
A warning is not good enough
The original is deleted only when extraction exits completely clean. Any warning at all and the archive is left in place.
Recycle Bin, never permanent
Originals go to the Recycle Bin. On drives that have no Recycle Bin they are moved into an _originals folder instead.
Nothing is ever overwritten
If an extracted file collides with one already on disk, the arriving file is renamed. What was already there survives untouched.
Encrypted archives, on your terms
Add passwords to unpakr's password book and it unlocks them for you. Each one is tested before anything is unpacked, so a wrong password never writes a byte. Anything it cannot open is left completely untouched.
Split archives are all or nothing
part1.rar, .7z.001, .zip.001 — every volume is removed together, or none of them is.
Incomplete downloads are ignored
A file that is still being written is left alone until the download actually finishes.
Dry-run mode
See exactly what unpakr would extract and what it would delete, without it touching anything.

Extraction is handled by a bundled copy of 7-Zip 26.02, so no separate install is required. Split volumes of these formats are handled as a single set. Installers and document formats such as .msi, .exe, .docx and .apk are deliberately left alone — they are archives underneath, but unpacking them is never what you want.

Is this a subscription?

Do I need 7-Zip installed?
No. 7-Zip 26.02 is bundled inside unpakr. There is nothing else to install.
What happens to password-protected archives?
If the password is in your password book, unpakr unlocks and extracts it like any other archive. If it is not, the archive is left completely untouched — not extracted, not deleted, not moved. Passwords are never written to the log.
Can I undo a deletion?
Yes. Originals go to the Recycle Bin, so you can restore them like any other file. On drives without a Recycle Bin they are moved to an _originals folder instead.
Does it work offline?
Yes. unpakr is fully offline — no account, no telemetry, no network calls at all.
